Common questions
What do I need to run Talki?
A Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later and a microphone. The App Store edition runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. The direct preview build is for Apple silicon.
Which edition should I use?
The App Store edition copies dictated text for you to paste. The direct edition can also use Fn as push-to-talk, paste into the field you started from and learn corrections. Each has its own library. See edition differences.
Talki records silence. What should I check?
Open System Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone and make sure Talki is allowed. Then check System Settings, Sound, Input for the right microphone. More in Mac dictation not working.
Where is my data, and how do I delete it?
Recordings, transcripts, notes and the dictionary are stored on your Mac. Delete a note in Talki by moving it to Trash and then deleting it permanently. Deleting the app's library removes everything. We hold no copy of your notes or recordings, so there is nothing to delete on our side.
How do I cancel Talki Plus or restore a purchase?
Cancel in your App Store account settings under Subscriptions. To restore on another Mac, open Talki Settings, Plan, and choose Restore purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple.
How do I delete my Talki account?
Delete it in Talki's account settings. This removes your account, sign-in methods and sessions from our service. Notes and recordings on your Mac are not touched. Purchase records are kept as financial records.
How do I make a privacy request?
