Voice notes on Mac
A voice note is worth keeping when you can find it again, read it, and still hear what you actually said. Here is how Talki keeps all three on your Mac.
What a voice note in Talki holds
Every voice note keeps three layers apart:
- Original recording: saved to your library first. Replay it any time, or run it through another model later.
- Original transcript: exactly what the speech provider returned, with the provider and model recorded next to it.
- Edited text: your dictionary replacements, optional AI cleanup and your own edits. Changing it never touches the first two.
Record a voice note
- Press ⌘ ⇧ Space from any app. A small floating control appears in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Speak. The control shows a live level while you talk.
- Stop the recording. The note appears in your library with its transcript.
A recording runs up to 5 minutes. To say more, add another recording to the same note; every earlier recording stays attached.
Keep notes findable
- Assign notes to projects and filter the library by project.
- Search across notes and transcripts.
- Replay the original audio of any note.
- Export a note as Markdown.
- Move notes to Trash and restore them; permanent deletion asks first.
You can also write a text note by hand and add voice to it later.
Where the notes live
Notes, transcripts and recordings are stored in Talki's library on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded to keep them, and there is no cloud sync in the current version. With Apple on-device recognition, the audio does not leave your Mac; with your own OpenRouter key, it is sent to OpenRouter and the model you chose. The privacy policy has the full breakdown.
