Guide
When a transcription fails
Talki saves the audio before it asks any model for text. A failure therefore costs you a retry, not the thought. This guide shows what you will see and what to do.
The order of operations
- You stop recording.
- Talki writes the original audio to its library on your Mac.
- Only then does it send the audio to the provider, or start on-device recognition.
- The transcript, the provider and the model are stored next to the recording.
Because step 2 comes first, every later step can fail without losing your words.
Common failures
| What happened | What you see | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No network or a provider error | The note shows the failure; the audio is saved | Retry, or choose another model |
| Language not available on-device | Talki explains that Apple cannot transcribe it locally | Install the language, or use another provider |
| Cloud processing not allowed (App Store edition) | Nothing is sent | Allow it in Settings, or stay on-device |
| Talki quit or the Mac restarted mid-request | The work is recoverable at next launch | Open the note and retry |
| The destination field changed | Text stays on the clipboard | Paste it where you want it |
Retrying
Open the note in the library and choose Retry. You can pick a different provider or model first. A retry from the library never pastes into another app; it updates the note.
Talki never retries a paid request automatically, so a flaky connection cannot run up your bill.
What Talki will not do
- Delete a recording because its transcription failed.
- Replace an unreadable library with an empty one. A damaged file is preserved and Talki stops writing until it is resolved.
- Press Return in another app.
Deleting on purpose
Moving a note to Trash is reversible. Deleting it permanently asks for confirmation and removes its recordings from your Mac.
