Talki vs Wispr Flow
Wispr Flow is a polished cross-platform dictation service. Talki is a Mac tool that keeps the original of everything you say. Here is how to choose.
The short answer
Choose Wispr Flow if you dictate on Windows, iPhone or Android as well as a Mac, or you want a meeting notetaker in the same product. Choose Talki if you work on a Mac, want every dictation saved as a replayable recording next to its transcript, and prefer on-device speech or your own model key over a word quota.

Where Wispr Flow is stronger
- More devices today. Dictation on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android under one account. Talki is Mac only for now.
- Meetings. Its Notetaker records calls on Mac and Windows. Talki stays out of meeting recording on purpose: it is a tool for your own words.
- Teams. Wispr Flow sells per-user plans with team features. Talki is built for one person's work.
Where Talki is different
- The recording is kept. Talki writes the audio to your library before transcription starts. If the words come out wrong, you can replay what you said and run it again with another model.
- No word quota on the free path. Apple's on-device recognition costs nothing per word, so Talki does not count them.
- Bring your own model. Connect an OpenRouter key and choose the speech model and cleanup model yourself, paying the provider directly.
- Notes with provenance. Each voice note keeps the recording, the original transcript and your edited text as separate layers, grouped in projects.
Switching from Wispr Flow
- Install Talki and allow microphone access when asked.
- Use ⌘ ⇧ Space to start and stop. In the direct edition you can use Fn as push-to-talk; see the Fn guide.
- Add the names and terms you used in Wispr Flow's dictionary to Talki's personal dictionary.
- Pick Apple on-device speech, or connect an OpenRouter key for cloud models.
Frequently asked
Is Talki a free Wispr Flow alternative?
Talki's core is free: recording, Apple on-device transcription, notes and the dictionary have no word limit. Cloud models need either your own OpenRouter key or Talki Plus.
Does Talki work on Windows like Wispr Flow?
Not yet. Talki is a Mac app today. Windows, iPhone and Android are planned.
Can Talki paste into any app?
The direct edition pastes into the field you started from when macOS Accessibility allows it, and falls back to the clipboard otherwise. The App Store edition copies the text for you to paste.
